Where Every Dog Gets Their Moment to Strut - Shi C
What happens when you combine dogs, fashion, community, and a little courage to try something different? You get Dare to Strut: A Dog Runway Experience, an annual community event created and produced by Event Planner Shi, my Portland-based event planning company. When I first dreamed up Dare to Strut, I had a simple vision: I wanted to create an experience where people could celebrate the dogs they love while connecting with others in our community. I didn't want it to feel like a traditional dog show where only certain breeds, sizes, or perfectly trained dogs belonged. I wanted every dog to have a chance to walk the runway and have their moment. Because to the people who love them, every dog is already a star. Our first Portland event in 2025 showed me how much joy something as playful as a dog fashion show could create. People came with their dogs dressed in creative outfits, cheered for dogs they had never met before, supported local businesses, took photos, laughed, and connected with one another. It made me realize that Dare to Strut could become more than a fashion show. It could become a community experience. When we began planning our second Portland show for May 17, 2026, Subaru of Portland opened its doors to us. And what a difference that made. On event day, the dealership transformed into something completely unexpected: a runway filled with dogs, families, local businesses, photographers, volunteers, and people who simply came because they love animals. We welcomed approximately 135 guests, 30 dogs, and 10 vendors. Dogs of different breeds, sizes, personalities, and fashion styles took their turn walking the runway. Some strutted confidently. Some were a little distracted. Some probably had absolutely no idea why everyone was cheering for them. And that was part of the magic. There was no expectation of perfection. Dare to Strut is about celebrating personality, creativity, and the special relationship we have with our dogs. What touched me most was watching the audience respond. People weren't only cheering for their own dogs or their friends' dogs. They cheered for everyone. For a few hours, strangers became a community. Through Event Planner Shi, I create experiences centered around connection, belonging, and bringing people together. But Dare to Strut is especially personal to me. I am a dog mom myself, and I understand how deeply our animals become part of our families. They are there for ordinary days, difficult seasons, new chapters, celebrations, and everything in between. They ask for very little from us, yet somehow give us so much. That is why partnering with Subaru of Portland felt so natural. Subaru's commitment to pets isn't simply something written on a website. Through Subaru Loves Pets and its involvement in the community, the team continues to show through action that pets and the people who love them matter. By welcoming Dare to Strut into their space, Subaru of Portland did much more than provide us with a venue. They gave a growing community event room to grow. They allowed local pet-focused businesses to meet new people. They gave dog parents an opportunity to create a joyful memory with their pets. They helped us bring together people who may never otherwise have crossed paths. Most importantly, they created a space where every dog was welcome to be celebrated. The event reminded me of something I believe deeply as an event planner: people may come because of what is on the program, but what they remember is how an experience made them feel. That day felt joyful. It felt welcoming. It felt wonderfully silly at times. And it felt like community. Seeing 26 dogs walk through a Subaru dealership might not be what most people picture when they think about a fashion runway, but perhaps that is exactly why it worked. Dare to Strut was created around the idea that you don't have to look, act, or be a certain way to deserve your moment in the spotlight. Whether you have four legs or two, there is something powerful about being surrounded by people who are simply happy to see you show up as yourself. As a small-business owner and independent event producer, partnerships like this mean more than people may realize. When an established local business says, "Yes, you can bring your community here," that yes creates possibilities. It gives an idea room to become a tradition. From our first Portland show with about 90 people to welcoming 135 guests the following year at Subaru of Portland, Dare to Strut continues to grow. As the founder of Event Planner Shi and producer of Dare to Strut, I am incredibly grateful to Zac and the entire Subaru of Portland team for believing in this unusual idea and helping us turn it into something bigger. Dogs bring people together. Community grows when people feel welcomed. And sometimes, making a difference doesn't have to be complicated. Thank you, Subaru of Portland! Driving Dreams Forward - Subaru of Portland makes Senna's wish come true! - Fletcher J
Four-year-old Senna recently received the exciting news that her wish to visit Walt Disney World is coming true, and the celebration was just as magical. With support from our friends at Subaru of Portland, we rolled out the blue carpet for a special wish party, complete with a surprise confetti welcome. Senna was showered with gifts featuring her favorite things, Disney princesses and Bluey, while Chick-fil-A sweetened the celebration with her favorite mac & cheese and chocolate brownies. Living with a nervous system disorder, Senna and her family often navigate challenges to ensure experiences are accessible to her needs. Her mom, Sequoiya, shared that this wish trip is an incredible gift because it allows the family to focus on what matters most: making memories together. Knowing the experience is designed around Senna and her needs means they can set aside worries about accessibility and simply embrace the joy of being together. Thank you to Subaru of Portland, who, since 2019, has been a champion of granting wishes for local Portland-area children and their families as they go through unimaginable circumstances. Zac, Tyler, and the Subaru of Portland team always go above and beyond to make these children feel special and this year was no exception!

Oregon Humane would like to thank Subaru of Portland for once again serving as the Presenting Sponsor of our 39th Annual Doggie Dash, which helped raise over $450,000 in support of the more than 12,000 animals we shelter and care for each year. Subaru of Portland served children at Rose Haven Day Shelter and Community Center, who were so thankful for the gift. This past holiday season, the team at Subaru of Portland partnered with Make-A-Wish Oregon on their Holiday Magic campaign to help children participate in Christmas! Each year, Make-A-Wish Oregon sets up toy stores at the local children's hospitals to give children the opportunity to shop for gifts for their parents, siblings, and even pets so they have the chance to experience the magic of gift giving. Zac, Tyler and the Subaru of Portland team pulled together resources to shop for toys and went above and beyond to make sure these children had all the options to make the holidays extra special! Subaru of Portland has partnered with Make-A-Wish Oregon since 2019 and continues to dedicate time, energy, and resources to making wishes come true for local children as well as supporting this Holiday Magic event as well. We were honored to partner with Subaru of Portland for a heartwarming Spay and Neuter event benefiting the animals of Dignity Village, a tiny home community offering refuge and hope to individuals overcoming homelessness. With the incredible support of five dedicated Subaru of Portland volunteers, we made a meaningful impact on vulnerable animals, providing spay and neuter support that impacted 27 cats and 6 Dogs! Subaru of Portland went above and beyond, generously donating Pet Parent Kits as well, to further support our mission. Their continued commitment to Oregon Humane Society and the animals we serve is deeply appreciated—and together, we’re building a more humane society for all.

Subaru of Portland supports our PK-5th grade school every year, providing teachers with school supplies and class budgets to buy more specific items that they need to support the learning of our classrooms every year. These kinds of partnerships and generousity are the things that keep schools functioning through tough economic times and allow us to have our students still feel like they are getting an amazing and all inclusive educational experieince while school budgets continue to be cut. They came and celebrated with our students as we focused on gratitude and recognized the partners that support our school and we were able to get a quick photo with the Subaru team. Subaru of Portland Joins Forces with 105.9 The Brew for Earth Day Cleanup - Sunny R
Subaru of Portland proudly partnered with 105.9 The Brew Morning Show -Tanner, Drew, and Laura to support SOLVE Oregon’s Earth Day Clean-Up. Together, they rallied listeners to join their team of Trash Bandits and help clean up one of Portland’s neighborhoods. Subaru of Portland played a pivotal role in activating volunteers to take action and make a difference. On Saturday, April 19th, Subaru of Portland and 105.9 The Brew led the charge, successfully collecting over 1000 pounds of trash from our city streets. 105.9 The Brew is deeply grateful to Subaru of Portland for helping inspire and mobilize the community to make Portland cleaner and safer!

On June 16th, Subaru of Portland partnered with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and Legacy Emanuel Health through the Subaru Loves to Care initiative. This partnership involved delivering blankets, patient care kits, and messages of hope to cancer patients. This year, Subaru of Portland will also support the LLS Urgent Need Program, Pediatric, which will provide 20 pediatric blood cancer patient households with financial relief to help offset non-medical costs associated with treatment, such as transportation, food, housing, utilities, etc. It was an amazing delivery day filled with kindness and connection. Through Subaru of Portland’s City participation in these programs, it shows they care. Subaru of Portland consistently shows up and shows out for their community, and that impact was felt on the delivery day. Legacy Emanuel Health was a joy to work with, and we were so happy they were the recipients of Subaru of Portland’s donation this year. We are so grateful to work and live in a community that takes care of one another. Thank you, Subaru of Portland and thank you Legacy Emanuel Health for being firm in your mission to help others.
